Straight Cutting, Bias Cutting, and Slitting
Bias Cutting
Bias Cutting
Bias Cutting is a technique where fabric is cut at an angle, typically at 45 degrees to the fabric's warp and weft. Unlike straight cutting (cutting along the warp and weft lines), bias cutting gives the fabric greater elasticity and fluidity, making it suitable for creating garments that require softness and body-conforming designs, such as skirts, dresses, or other clothing with a natural drape.
Application:
- Bias Tape and Trimmings: Bias cutting is also used to make bias tape, which becomes more elastic when cut on the bias compared to straight-cut tape. It is ideal for use as decorative edges or bindings on clothing.
- Home Textiles: Bias cutting is commonly used in the production of cushions, curtains, or other home decor items that require a soft, draping effect.
